Mike Candela joined MCI USA in 2015 as Associate Vice President of Sales and was promoted to Vice President in 2016. In this role, Candela brings over 15 years of expertise to his position with an expansive background in event, print, social, and digital revenue generation. He has multi-disciplinary association experience in business development, marketing, communications, public relations, and advocacy.  Candela has served in a senior capacity for the Optical Society of America, the Electronic Retailing Association, and the American Association of Airport Executives. These associations, among others, have benefited from his unique ability to develop and integrate revenue and communications solutions that are balanced and beneficial for everyone involved.

Prior to joining MCI USA, Candela worked as a Vice President of Sales and Digital, his digital media expertise supporting large associations and major brands on a national level in developing e-media publications and new streams of non-dues revenue. Over the past 15 years he has helped more than 150 national associations grow membership, generate revenue and become top-of-mind in their respective industries. 

Candela has also successfully raised money in the venture capital arena to fund and sustain new venture companies, helping to raise more than $2.5 million in financing for start-up companies. 

He received his Bachelor’s Degree from The University of Maryland, College Park, where he also served at the Vice President and President of the Latter-Day-Saints Student Association (LDSSA). 

Candela, his wife Krista, and their three children currently reside in La Plata, MD.

Mike’s areas of expertise:

  • Creating strategic non-dues revenue and sponsorship opportunities
  • Initiating programs improving business relationships between an association’s membership and their customers
  • Identifying areas of an association that require attention or improvements. Building the infrastructure as well as defining and implementing processes needed to ensure rapid and profitable growth
  • Generating member growth and retention campaigns

What was your first car: Subaru Station Wagon, beige, no matter how hard I tried it would not go over 52 MPH! 

What superhero power do you wish you had: Flying! I’ve always been envious of Superman! 

What television show or movie most resembles your current life: Arrested Development, you just can’t pick your family. 

What is your favorite guilty pleasure: Peanut butter at midnight.

What do you do with your “free” time: Currently working with my father and daughters restoring a Willy’s 1959 Jeep.
