How has your job evolved, particularly over the past year?
I started working at Black Flower in March 2019 as a Senior Account Manager on the American Express team. I largely work on global premium events for American Express. Over the course of the year, we’ve pivoted much of our cardmember programming to virtual experiences. We also delivered two large-scale return-to-live activations for Amex Platinum. In September, we activated the American Express Platinum Drive-In, where cardmembers enjoyed three nights of movie entertainment from the safety of their own cars. We produced our second live activation, the American Express Platinum Winter Lights, which was a drive-through holiday experience across two weekends in December. It was , and we were super-grateful that we were able to hold these live events and work onsite again. Knowing that there will be a transition period before things “return to normal,” we’re hoping that we get to do more work like this .
What is the best part of your job?
I would say that it’s really the work we get to do. We have our heritage programs (pre-COVID, anyway) that we get to do every year. Traveling with the team, working with our partners, and creating longstanding relationships with them are some of the best opportunities.
On top of that, we’re always working on new and exciting projects — whether it be an Arctic excursion to see the Northern Lights, a Centurion-only Alicia Keys concert, or ideating new experiential concepts for the ongoing Amex x Saks partnership. It’s never a dull moment, that’s for sure! Even during COVID, we were lucky to activate two drive-through experiences that we’ve never done before. I’m so lucky to be on a team that gives us the opportunity to do such great and exciting work.
What are you looking forward to this year in your personal life?
We got a puppy named Archie who just turned 10 months old. He’s a mini goldendoodle and we love him so much! We’ve been lucky to be able to work remotely to be with him as he’s growing up, and I’m looking forward to spending more time with him this year.
I’m also definitely looking to get out of the bubble a bit if we can and hoping to do more traveling. On my bucket list is to go to Asia. We wanted to do that last year, and of course it’s on the back burner for now. Whenever we do get to travel, though, that’s where you’ll find me!
Have you read any great books or seen any great movies recently?
Like everyone, I’ve been enjoying the content that Netflix has been churning out. The Queen’s Gambit is probably some of the best work I’ve seen in a while. I was very impressed with Anya Taylor-Joy’s performance. As a miniseries, the pace was so well-crafted and well-written. And the production values! The cast was incredible, the set locations were beautiful, and I enjoyed seeing how Beth Harmon’s timely hair and wardrobe got better and better every episode.
What is something that your clients and coworkers may not know about you?
That’s a tricky one, because our team works so closely and we talk every day. One thing that they may not know is that I have almost 30 house plants, including two fiddle leaf fig trees that are over 10 feet tall, living with me in my Manhattan apartment. I basically work in an urban jungle!
