Catalysing the sustainability conversation

The Challenge

The second Danish Maritime Forum took place in Copenhagen on 7-8 October 2015, gathering more than 200 key leaders from all parts of the global maritime value chain. With the world economy undergoing a time of heightened uncertainty, the convention’s key objective was to address issues of sustainable advancement in the industry, the backbone of globalization and international trade, to drive enduring profit.

Danish Maritime Days sought out MCI’s sustainability experts to design and integrate a strategy on responsible event production which needed to align conference ambitions whilst reflecting the theme of continuity. Following the ISO20121 Event Sustainability Standard, Sustainable Event Policy and Supplier Code of Conduct, MCI was tasked with:

  • showcasing the forum’s environmental commitment to all stakeholders
  • ensuring that the conference reached its sustainability objectives
  • coordinating with suppliers to identify solutions that increased sustainability performance
Solutions & Results

The team’s efforts of enhancing processes emerged in clear positive results as the Danish Maritime Forum 2015 surpassed its sustainability targets, scoring 21% better than previous years on the MeetGreen® event auditing system.

Implemented tactics in the areas of sustainable food & beverage offer, responsible supply chain engagement, greenhouse gas emissions mitigation and waste reduction, resulted in:

  • €26 000 of tracked savings
  • 80% of all the waste was recycled, reused or donated
  • 60% of all food was locally produced

By customising their solutions, MCI’s experienced consultants positioned the event at the centre of the sustainability discussion allowing Danish Maritime Days to be viewed as thought leaders. With such solid outcomes, MCI’s sustainability services team will once again be working towards greener event productions for the Danish Maritime Forum 2016.
