Pacesetter Awards

The EIC Pacesetter Awards celebrate industry leaders who exhibit individual excellence based on innovation, impact, vision, leadership, influence, collaboration, courage, perseverance, and other achievements.

They chart a course for where the industry is today and where it is headed tomorrow.

We are very proud to announce that, Guy Bigwood, MCI's Group Sustainability Director, was recognised with the award based on his accomplishments and proactive industry leadership in championing the integration of sustainability principles into the strategy and standard operating practices of MCI and hundreds of other events and organisations during the last ten years.

The 2017 Pacesetter Award recipients are:

  • Dan Berger, Social Tables, Nominated by Meeting Professionals International (MPI) (Innovation)
  • Guy Bigwood, MCI Group, Nominated by MCI (Sustainability)
  • Mac Campbell, Baltimore Convention Center, Nominated by International Association of Venue Managers (IAVM) (Young Professional)

Guy Bigwood stated: "I'm deeply honoured and very touched to have been recognised with the Events Industry Council Pacesetter Award. While I'm humbled that the Award is in my name - I really see it as recognition for all the great work that my team and the talents at MCI have done on sustainability over the last 10 years. Without their passion, and the empowerment and support from the Management Team - we would not have achieved anything. Well done team MCI!"

MCI’s sustainability journey began in 2006 during the European Growth Summit in Barcelona, inviting Al Gore as keynote speaker. Still relatively unknown for his environmental work, ex Vice-President Gore shared his view of an “Inconvenient Truth,” referring to the current state of the planet and future climate change challenges. The MCI board – present at the event – decided that MCI needed to develop and launch a comprehensive sustainability strategy.

Over the last 10 years, the company has grown into an internationally recognised sustainability leader in the events industry – both for our internal sustainability programme and for our work with our clients.  Read more on our "Decade of Dedication" to sustainability here.

The Events Industry Council will celebrate the best and brightest of the industry at the 2017 Hall of Leaders and Pacesetter Awards Gala during IMEX America on October 10, 2017 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
