Today, there is probably no other industry that is facing as much disruption and change in the way its services are delivered and financed, and how it is regulated, as the healthcare industry.

The patient (the consumer) is becoming progressively more informed and engaged. This is largely thanks to the revolution in mobile communications (which changes the locus of healthcare delivery and the way healthcare data is captured, delivered and managed), where patients can now partner with their healthcare professional (HCP) and take on a significant role in maintaining their own health. 

The public (the potential consumer) is commonly dissatisfied with the current healthcare system and has particular concerns over healthcare access, quality and cost. Whilst Europe seemingly spends less on healthcare than the United States (US), the numbers remain huge (approximately 11% in Western Europe, 6% in Eastern Europe and 17% in the US – expressed as total expenditure on health as a percentage of GDP).
