For 30 years, the Meet Japan program coordinated by the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) enabled event planners from academic and industrial organizations to explore the diversity of Japan’s convention cities and venues. This year, because of covid-19 restrictions, an in-person trip was sadly not possible. JNTO set MCI the challenge of pivoting their traditional hosted buyer program to virtual.

The MCI team helped JNTO to develop the creative concept for their first "Online Meet Japan, Edu. Fam". This included an educational seminar, virtual city tours, and 1on1 online business meetings, matching hosted buyers worldwide with Japanese cities. MCI also produced a content strategy for the virtual trip, providing participants with an overview of Japan’s convention destinations through interactive activities. The live sessions incorporated videos to introduce convention centres and unique venues, a variety of transit and accommodation options, cultural attractions, and local cuisines.

Together JNTO and MCI successfully moved this dialogue online, enabling Japan’s government agency to continue supporting the future events of associations.
