4 Event Experience Trends Expected for 2019

4 Event Experience Trends Expected for 2019 | MCI Group | MCI Group | EN

Another year has passed, and we find ourselves faced with the reality of the future.

And from what we’ve seen, there are some great things in store for 2019.

So, let’s just dive into them, shall we?

Wellness and Emotional Intelligence (EQ)

If you look at the trending mobile apps of today, or some of the hashtags more commonly being used recently, you’ll notice that a lot of them have something to do with mindfulness.

And in our constant on-the-go society, this makes sense.

To add to the rising popularity of mindfulness, companies are looking for people with higher emotional intelligence (EQ). Of course, EQ being the ability to accurately identify one’s own emotions, and the emotions of those around them. It is believed that a higher EQ in an individual increases the chances of better team collaboration and output.

Which means that, these topics are on your attendee’s top of mind.

This year, we can potentially see attendees looking for events that focus more on mindfulness, wellness and corporate social responsibility. Or at least feature these topics prominently in the form of wellness and play areas and brain-friendly mindfulness sessions to recharge and refocus their concentration part-way through an event schedule.

Do you have a minute to be mindful?

Ah, chatbots. They have been around for a while now in many forms on website landing pages and consumer service functions to a simple game.

The bottom line is, a chatbot should convincingly simulate a human conversation.

A tricky feat since humans are complicated, but nonetheless the technology is developing quite rapidly. And becoming quite popular.

Just look at home voice assistants. Here are some statistics for you.

According to Statista, Google shipped 11.5 million smart speaker units by Q4 2018. Amazon was in the lead with having shipped 13.7 million units.

So, one can deduce that most people are familiar with or have used the technology.

Will it become a normal and expected thing? Possibly, yes.

And chatbots in events can be extremely helpful with taking over the responsibility of answering simple to complex attendee questions. So, in 2019 we can potentially see chatbots being used often in events, perhaps in the form of a personal assistant or a survey bot for when the event ends.

Oh, and let’s not forget how fun interacting with a chatbot can be. Is there a way to combine the technology with wellness and play?

We shall see.

It’s becoming more common among professionals, as a way of balancing their work and personal lives. Meaning, it can be a great incentive for attendees to attend an event.

So, expect to see more leisure activities or carefully chosen locations and venues to better please the bleisure traveller. Like, for example, planning an event near a weekend or including a fun adventure activity during the event.

Multipurpose Venues

Events are a lot more creative and innovative these days, and this will continue to be the case well into the future. And what is it that innovative event concepts need the most?

Multipurpose venues.

This does make it a lot easier for event professionals to invent their creative concepts.

So, expect more modular event spaces with pop-up stages and movable walls, or campus buildings with different spaces to entertain, educate and encourage mindfulness.

And there we have it. But of course, there are many more trends set for 2019 – we are just touching the tip of the iceberg. If you would like to hear more about our services and how we can support you with your next event, get in touch!
