MCI wins two ICARUS Awards for outstanding sustainability work

Buyers Award recognises MCI Sustainability Programme & Professional Team Award celebrates Symantec collaboration

Geneva, 13 November 2015.  MCI received two ICARUS awards for outstanding commitment to sustainability at the GBTA Annual European Conference held in Frankfurt, Germany, from 9 - 11 November 2015.

ICARUS aims to recognise European companies and industry professionals who can demonstrate leadership, innovation, creativity and a serious commitment to developing sustainable programmes, products or services.

MCI Group Sustainability Director Guy Bigwood was presented with the Buyers Award for MCI’s overall sustainability programme, encompassing both the global group’s internal sustainability policies and the innovative sustainable event strategies and consulting provided to clients.

He commented, “This award recognises the dedication and achievement of MCI Talent all around the world who are creating a company with a strong culture of care and responsibility. I am very proud to say that sustainability is now part of our essence and brand.”

Symantec and MCI also received the Professional Team Award for their three-year collaboration to implement a structured sustainability initiative for Symantec’s user conference.

Working together since 2012, MCI has guided Symantec on how to align its global Corporate Responsibility commitment with its events strategy and operations. For Symantec’s 2014 EMEA Vision Conference Series, MCI Berlin helped Symantec achieve a number of impressive results in the four city symposium, including:
  •  €25,000 saved through sustainability initiatives alone.
  • 100% of key supplier contracts included sustainability.
  • 88% reduction in waste, 89% waste diversion rate and 67% reduction in CO2 emissions
  • 19,228 trees pledged to be planted and 43 children trained as Climate Justice Ambassadors.
  • Increased participant awareness of Symantec’s Corporate Responsibility programme by 49%.
“Integrating sustainability strategically into business events is an ongoing journey of team collaboration, improvements, ideas and perseverance,” said Claudia van’t Hullenaar, Symantec’s Global Event Marketing Manager, EMEA. “This award is great recognition of the progress we have made with the support of MCI.”
