The new growth equation: creativity, intelligence and impact

Why the future belongs to agencies that combine human creativity, AI-powered intelligence and measurable business impact

By Sylvia Andre, Chief Marketing & Creativity Officer, mci group and MCI Agency

The defining conversations shaping marketing in 2026 closely reflect what we believe at mci group: AI is becoming part of the infrastructure of modern marketing. But infrastructure alone is not the advantage. The advantage lies in what people build with it.

That shift has been particularly visible at two of the industry’s most influential gatherings this year: SXSW London, where technology, culture and creativity converge, and Cannes Lions, where the global marketing and creative community comes together to define what great work looks like. Across both, the conversation has moved beyond AI adoption towards a more important question: what does AI mean for creativity, customer intelligence, agency value and business growth? The future will belong to agencies that combine creativity, intelligence and business outcomes in one operating model.

AI can accelerate production, analyse behaviour and support better decisions. Human creativity gives the work originality, judgement and meaning. The opportunity is not to choose between them. It is to combine them.

What still makes brands memorable? Creativity

Efficiency can reduce costs and speed can increase output. Neither guarantees that people will notice, remember or act. The best work strengthens the brand, changes customer behaviour, supports business growth and creates something competitors cannot easily reproduce. Creativity remains the differentiator.

Marketing fundamentals matter more, not less, as technology changes. Brands still need a clear understanding of their audiences, a strong idea and a reason for people to care. The risk is not that AI replaces creativity. It is that the pursuit of speed and scale removes the magic that makes a brand memorable.

Our value is not producing more content faster. It is creating work that grows our clients’ businesses.

From productivity tool to growth engine

Most agencies are already using AI, but much of that use remains focused on productivity: reducing effort, accelerating production and lowering costs. The greater opportunity is to turn AI into a growth engine, using it to improve customer intelligence, strengthen decision-making, predict behaviour and optimise business outcomes.

This changes the questions agencies should help clients answer: Which persona is most valuable? Which channel is most likely to convert? What message will resonate most? What action should happen next? And did customer behaviour actually change?

AI agents will also reshape how agencies operate, removing repetitive, low-value tasks while keeping people responsible for judgement, creativity and critical decisions. Deploying them at scale will require clear permissions, data safeguards, testing, evaluation, cost management and human oversight.

The future is not faster campaign execution. It is outcome optimisation.

What are agencies really selling?

The traditional agency model still rewards hours, effort and activity. Clients increasingly value thinking, outcomes and business impact. The basis of value is shifting: from hours to intelligence, from deliverables to outcomes, and from execution to business impact.

As AI reduces production costs, agencies will face growing pressure on time-based pricing. They will need to monetise the value of their intelligence, creativity and strategic thinking. For MCI, that means demonstrating our value as a trusted growth partner, not simply as a supplier of campaigns, content or events.

The agencies that endure will help clients see more clearly, decide more confidently and act more effectively.

Discovery and decision-making are changing

People increasingly discover brands through creators, customers, communities and conversations. Brands can no longer expect to tell their stories alone, and distribution matters as much as production: a strong idea has limited value if the right people never encounter it.

But people are no longer the only audience brands need to influence. Brands must also be understood by search systems, algorithms, recommendation engines and large language models. Future content must work for people – clear, useful and emotionally relevant – and for machines – structured, consistent and easy to interpret.

AI combined with meaningful customer data is also changing how businesses understand audiences. Richer personas, tailored messaging, predictive journeys and better channel decisions make personalisation more useful and more relevant.

The question becomes: What is the next best action to achieve the outcome we want? That is where customer intelligence becomes business value.

HumAIn intelligence

As we move through the second half of 2026, the opportunity for agencies is clear: combine AI intelligently with creativity, customer understanding and business ambition. AI should be a strategic co-worker – a source of intelligence and possibility guided by human judgement.

For mci group, this means stronger insights, smarter growth strategies and human experiences that use technology to deepen connection, build trust and deliver measurable outcomes.

It means making experiences more relevant and effective without losing what makes them human.

AI can make agencies faster. Creativity can make experiences matter. Intelligence can connect both to growth.

The future belongs to those that combine human creativity, AI-powered intelligence and measurable impact to create stronger connections and long-term growth.

The question for every brand is no longer whether to use AI, but how to combine it with human creativity, customer understanding and business ambition. Talk to mci group about creating human experiences that deepen connection, build trust and deliver measurable growth.
